Hello Hollanders and welcome to the last update of 2017. First of all, I’d like to wish all of the visitors a happy new year and give you a huge thank you for another year of visiting the site, commenting and being awesome. So, with 2017 being one of the greatest years career-wise for Tom I thought I would put together a little review of this year to welcome 2018 with open arms.
The year started with Tom being nominated for a BAFTA on January 05th for Rising Star, to then on February 12th winning the mentioned award. Between these two events, Tom attended a special event to promote Dell’s new laptop, which was Spider-Man: Homecoming themed, at CES.
A couple of days after the BAFTA’s in February, The Lost City of Z premiered in the UK on February 16 to then have it’s LA premiere on April 05. The film grossed up to $8 million worldwide, it scored 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, 78% on Metacritic and 6.6/10 on IMDb.
In March, we got the first promotional pictures for Spider-Man: Homecoming, which included the first still and three posters, we also started the press with CinemaCon, where he attended alongside director Jon Watts and producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, to then in May, Tom paid a visit to Brazil, where he and Laura Harrier attended the press conference and photocall, also, a special event for Omelete, which is an entertainment website funded in 2000.
After the visit in Brazil, Tom and Laura headed to Mexico where he attended a fan event and a convention named ‘Conque’. Throughout June and July, Tom traveled to Singapore, Madrid, London, Barcelona, Rome, Russia, New York, Los Angeles and Korea, where he attended several press conference and photocalls to promote the film alongside Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, he also attended Talk Shows such as Elle, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Graham Norton Show, Good Morning America, Late Show with Seth Meyers and even discussed the film at AOL’s Build Studio. In New York, Tom attended the New York First Responders’ Screening and in Los Angeles, we got the world premiere of the film. Tom also attended the premiere of the film in Japan and China.
Spider-Man: Homecoming grossed up to $880 million worldwide, it scored 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, 73% on Metacritic and 7.6/10 on IMDb. Reviews calling it the best Spider-Man film and Tom the perfect cast for it.
This year we got the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, The Current War and Pilgrimage, the latest coming out in August of this year. Pilgrimage scored 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, 60% on Metacritic and 5.8/10 on IMDb. Not only did we get material of films we knew Tom would be in but he also landed roles for films such as Uncharted and Spies in Disguise.
This year we also got a bunch of on set pictures of Tom on Chaos Walking, which was filmed in Montreal, some of them with Daisy Ridley! The movie comes out in 2019.
We also got to see Tom dressed as Rihanna for his performance on Lip Sync Battle, to which he won, against Zendaya. This one premiering before the MTV Movie and TV Awards back in May. Tom said multiple times in different interviews that he is mostly stopped on the street by people recognizing him for his Lip Sync Battle performance than Spider-Man.
And lastly but not less important – in fact, probably the most important one– This year Tom alongside his brothers, Harry, Sam, and Paddy, created a charity called ‘The Brothers Trust’ where they help different charities and people. This year they had two events, the second one was to fight EB and even got to go to Good Morning Britain!
And that’s all folks! I want to finish by giving a huge thanks to Lu for the inspiration on this ‘Year in Review’ special and by wishing Tom the best in this coming year. This also goes to our visitors. Thanks for supporting the website!
